Collecting baseball cards once a craze with a number of youngsters, but I don’t remember it getting them anywhere. Child may develop an absorbing passion like; say collecting stamps or coins that lasts a lifetime or a child may flit from hobby to hobby- making models one year building kites the next year. Whatever it is, a hobby is an interest apart from academics that a child pursues out of passion, which fetches the child friends with similar interests later on. The best part is that a hobby can actually turn into a lifetime profession for some who land up as stamp curators or Museum curators. Children gain immense confidence and a sense of self-esteem from the activities they choose themselves. Children may have had a bad day at school or or they may have scored low in their exam, but they can forget their frustrations, at least temporarily, when they focus on their current interest. That’s because Hobbies do not just emerge, they must be fostered. Inorder to cater to the satisfaction and pleasure of child, it is essential to understand the importance of nurturing an interest or hobby. A parent must remember that no hobby is lesser or less dignified than the other. Help your child to choose a hobby; don’t ignore their opinions and desires, just because you think as a parent you know best.
